Why does my black tank still say full?
When RV holding tank sensors incorrectly read full, it is typically due to residue build-up connecting the sensors. This can be cleaned off with standard anti-grease detergent and or a chemical or enzyme based holding tank digestant treatment.
How can you tell if your tank is full?
There is another way to know your tank is full (or close to it) besides using sensors or sound. “Sound” is also a good indicator, but in addition to that method, the closer to full, the more it smells (even if you use chemicals). You’ll want to dump for sure when you can’t take the smell any longer. “Splash back” is another indicator.
How does a water tank monitor system work?
Contact the maker of the monitor system– no need to guess how it works. The general theory behind any sensor where some part of the sensor enters the tank itself is that the bottom most sensor would not provide any reading (empty) until the water level rises enough to touch the probe above creating a circuit.
Can a perfectly empty tank still read full?
Factory-installed tank sensors are wholly inaccurate. Previous polls on this site also substantiate this information. Deposits of paper and “other” things get stuck on the sensors. A perfectly empty tank can still read full as a result.
Is there a tank level indicator that works?
We are on RV number five and have finally gotten a tank level indicator system that works. It is the Sensa Tank Level Monitoring System and has worked flawlessly for four years. See Level works good.
What does the tank monitoring system look like?
If the tank wall build-up approaches 1/2 inch thick or more with scum or debris, the system will pick up that mass as a water level—another reason to clean and flush your tanks regularly. The sensors look like a long, narrow, green “PC board” that is flexible.
Can You fool the seelevel tank monitoring system?
It is possible to fool the SeeLevel system. If the tank wall build-up approaches 1/2 inch thick or more with scum or debris, the system will pick up that mass as a water level—another reason to clean and flush your tanks regularly. The sensors look like a long, narrow, green “PC board” that is flexible.

How does an indicator light on a holding tank work?
The indicator light might be on or off and never change. Both methods used the tank’s liquid contents to activate the sensor (inside the tank) and this would cause an indicator light to turn on. Typically, there was a small panel inside the RV containing these lights.
